Mayor Rodrigo A. Alanano - Foundation University Outstanding Alumni for 2006

3 Outstanding Alumni receive honors

The Foundation University Alumni Association Inc. honored three alumni for their accomplishments that have brought honor not only to themselves, but to the University.

This year's alumni awardees are Judge Pamela Ann A. Maxino (Elem '69 and HS '73) for Law; Dauin Mayor Rodrigo A. Alanano (HS '74) for Public Service, and Atty. Florence A. Tangente, (BSC '86) for Entrepreneurship.

The awardees were selected from a list of nominees by the FUAA Search Committee chaired by Judge Eleuterio E. Chiu, with Dr. Eva C. Melon, Atty. Honorato Andaya, FU Vice President for Finance & Administration Victor Vicente "Dean" G. Sinco, and FUAA outgoing president Dinno T. Depositario as members.

The ceremony, held at the Sofia Soller Sinco Hall on Dec. 4, was one of the activities for the Kasadya-an Festival '06 of the University. It was attended by FU students, and the academe led by FU President Mira D. Sinco, who presented to them the Outstanding Alumni Medallion.

In her response, Judge Maxino, executive judge of the Regional Trial Court and Municipal Trial Court III of Guagua, Pampanga, and presiding judge of the RTC Branch 51 in Guagua, said that her acceptance of the award makes her all the more conscious that with it comes the "continuing obligation and duty to live up to, and maintain, the good reputation of a Foundationite".

She said her years as a student at Foundation developed her mind, body, and spirit to give her that "unshakable foundation to face the world of work".

Mayor Alanano, on the other hand, said the award recognizes his contributions to the community as a public servant for the past several years, and inspires him to do more.

"This award challenges me even more to pursue more development programs for the community that I serve, and to better serve the interests of the public, as what this University had taught and imparted to me in my high school days."

He said true leadership is based on selflessness and sacrifice.

Atty. Tangente, meanwhile, gave an emotional response as she recounted her humble beginnings. Coming from a poor family, she finished her studies through scholarships offered by Foundation to honor students.

Looking back on those years, Tangente, now vice president, treasurer, and chief operating office of JFT Finance & Credit Corp., was on the verge of tears. "I owe my existence to many people who have shared their blessings, and helped me in my time of need; and to Foundation University, which has helped me attain the kind of person I am today: equipped me with the principles of hardwork, dedication, excellence, and humility."

She pledged her continued support to the University in whatever capacity.
